 Product Description

Hinge Fix for Trim Flap Panel on Mercedes SL550 (R230)

Parts are printed with PETG Filament.

I created these parts because I needed to fix this on my 2009 Mercedes SL550.

Includes Hinge fix for both sides.

Parts included.

Large Hinge Fix Plate (2 each, one each side)

Small Hinge Fix Plate with 16 gauge wire for front of flap to swivel on. (2 each, one each side)

6mm Width X 8mm Length Torsion Spring (Not exactly same as OEM but will work.  You will need to bend the legs on the spring.  (2 Each)

Note that this is a fix for broken hinges on the Panel that holds the flap.  The flap must still have good hinges.

1. You will need to remove the Trim Flap Panel. There are a total of 5 screws (torx) and 1 8mm bolt that need to be removed.  There are also 2 plastic retaining clips that hold down the panel.  See pictures for screw and bolt locations.

2.  Remove flap from panel if not already broken off.

3. Remove metal rod and spring (if not broken off)

4. Install large hinge fix plate onto flap along with spring (note that you will need to bend the spring legs to work correctly).  Insert metal rod.

5. Make sure flap pivots on large fix plate correctly.

6. Trim the broken hinges off of the panel using flush cutters so they are cut flush.

7. Test fit part and get understanding of how the flap will need to be aligned.

8. Roughen the areas where the fix plates will be glued to the underside of panel.

9. Bend 16 guage wire on small fix plate to flap will swivel correctly on panel.

10. Glue small fix plate onto panel using contact cement or super glue gel.  Do not use too much glue.  Hold part in place following directions of the glue or contact cement.

11. Test fit flap again and make sure it will align and swivel correctly.

12. Glue large fix plate in place using contact cement of super glue gel.  Do not use too much glue.  Hold part in place following directly of the glue or contact cement.

13. Let Glue or contact Cement dry for the specified amount of time.

14. Test swivel action of flap.

15. Re-install flap panel on car in reverse of how it was removed.

These instructions are based on what I did to fix my flap panel.
